Auburn/Alabama Math

Payton, Logan, Kara, and Kerionna show off their Auburn/Alabama pride!

Today the DES 3rd grade enjoyed our last day of school before Thanksgiving Holidays. Everyone was excited!

This week is also Auburn/Alabama week. The students were allowed to wear a shirt in support of their favorite team. During math, the class took a survey to determine how many students pull for Auburn and how many pull for Alabama. We charted the data from our survey and used that data to solve a few mathematical problems. The result. . .we realized that math CAN be fun!

Enjoy Thanksgiving Break and come ready to work on Monday the 28th!

Pie Party

Yummy! Pie Party!

Yum! The DES third grade will have a pie party on Monday. If you can volunteer to send a yummy pie, please send it by your child. Students are to bring a canned drink.

Graphic Organizers

Graphic Organizers Help Improve Comprehension

We often utilize graphic organizers in our class to aid students in organizing their thoughts while preparing to summarize a reading or to answer an open-ended question. This is the graphic organizer that we completed during whole group reading instructional time today. The students filled in an identical organizer in their individual Learning Logs.

When used in effective ways, graphic organizers have a great amount of potential for fostering learning in a variety of different areas in education. The most prevalent educational areas that are positively affected by the effectiveness of graphic organizers are comprehension, reading and vocabulary knowledge. A number of studies have been conducted that indicate that graphic organizers have the ability to improve reading and vocabulary knowledge and understanding exponentially.

Ask your child about filling in their graphic organizer. This graphic organizer can help prepare the student for the Lesson 10 test.
