“Education is not filling a pail but the lighting of a fire.” William Butler Yeats
Education provides children with life skills to become critical-thinking, confident, contributing members of society. The primary focus of education is student success. My goal as an educator is to go above and beyond that primary goal. My goal is to ignite the fire of learning that will become a consuming force in the lives of my students.
I believe it is essential to instill traditional American virtues such as respect for authority, perseverance, honor, and consideration for others in my students. My classroom is a community of unique learners. Within that community I foster an environment of respect for individuality while designing cooperative, active-learning experiences that help develop social virtues such as team work and tolerance for differing points of view.
I believe each student has his or her own strengths and weaknesses. As an educator, I seek to encourage my students to capitalize and build upon individual strengths. I empower my students by designing individual learning plans that focus on strengthening areas of weakness within his or her bank of skills.
My approach to learning and education is enthusiastic. I model enthusiasm for my students and endeavor to create authentic learning experiences that encourage my students to become active participants in the educational process.
I am simply the match that lights the fire. Once ignited, the flame of learning will burn for a lifetime.
